Brandeis Edges Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving

BABSON PARK, Mass. -- The Babson College swimming and diving teams both fell victim to visiting Brandeis University on Thursday night, as the men lost an extremely close meet, 119-114, while the women fell by a score of 137-107.

The Babson men claimed a total of six first-place finishes in defeat, including two each by senior Aaron Paradis (Norwich, Conn.) and first-year Greg Bissett (Cerritos, Calif.). Paradis once again swept both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events, while Bissett finished first in the 50 and 100 freestyle races. Other winners for the men's team were senior captain Ted Plaisted (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) in the 200 backstroke and the 400 free relay team consisting of Plaisted, Bissett, sophomore Matt Turkot (Fox River Grove, Ill.), and sophomore Tom Foutsitzis (Shrewsbury, Mass.). The Beavers also received three runner-up performances from sophomore Ryan Pope (Hawthorne, N.Y.), who finished second in the 1-meter dive, 3-meter dive, and 200 breaststroke, and one from first-year Edvard Arnet (Tokyo, Japan) in the 1000 free. The 400 medley relay squad of first-years Greg DeWitt (Southbury, Conn.), Ryan Akiba (Corona del Mar, Calif.), David Yoon (Irvine, Calif.), and Mike Flaherty (Walpole, Mass.) also added a second-place performance for Babson.

Sophomore Brittany Bishop (Little Neck, N.Y.) led the Babson women's team, factoring in on both of the squad's event victories. She finished first in the 50 freestyle while also swimming the opening leg for the triumphant 400 free relay team, which also featured sophomores Meaghan Rohde (St. Paul, Minn.), Mallory Mosk (San Clemente, Calif.), and Sara Martinek (Riverside, Ill.). The Beavers also received 10 second-place efforts in the meet, including two by first-year Keira Yeager (Huntington, N.Y.) in the 200 IM and 200 breast. Also adding second-place finishes for Babson were Martinek in the 200 free, Bishop in the 100 free, Mosk in the 200 back, Rohde in the 500 free, first-year Hannah Powell (Media, Pa.) in the 50 free, first-year Nevart Varadian (Newton, Mass.) in the 1-meter dive, first-year Sara Minichini (Rome, Italy) in the 3-meter dive, and the quartet of Powell, sophomore Nikita Nadkarni (North Brunswick, N.J.), first-year Flynn Lincoln (Needham, Mass.), and first-year Katie Ammann (Palmer, Mass.) in the 400 medley relay.
