Babson Park, Mass. – Two Babson College swimming and diving athletes have been named to the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All-Academic Team. Sophomore Nikita Nadkarni (North Brunswick, N.J.) represented the women’s team and senior Ted Plaisted (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) earned a spot on the men’s team. In order to be eligible for this award, students must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher and have to be a sophomore or higher in class standing.
Nadkarni earns her first All-Academic honor after finishing sixth overall at the NEWMAC Championships in the 200 yard breaststroke finishing with a time of 2:34.15. She also competed in the 100 yard breaststroke where she finished with a time of 1:12.21 for 15th place. Nadkarni currently holds two records at Babson as a part of the 200 medley relay team with a record time of 1:54.30 and the 400 medley relay team with a record time of 4:08.25 from the 2008-09 season.
Plaisted finished out his career with his third showing on the NEWMAC All-Academic team. In 2010 he finished seventh overall at the NEWMAC Championships in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 1:56.22 and ninth overall in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 54.64. He also appears in the Babson record book holding the all-time record for the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 1:55.28 from the 2008-09 season.
As a team, Babson women’s swimming and diving finished ninth overall at NEWMAC Championships and the men finished seventh overall.
