WORCESTER, Mass.—Senior Steven Jacobi (Cranbury, N.J.) set a program-record in the 200-yard individual medley and sophomore An Truong (West Roxbury, Mass.) came in fourth in the 500-yard freestyle, helping the Babson College men's swimming & diving team pick up 168 points on Friday night at the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships.
After qualifying 13th for the 200-yard IM finals, Jacobi swam the fifth-best time of the evening, posting a time of 1:54.76 to break Michael Hobbs' 23-year old record by just under a second and a half. Jacobi now holds four individual marks and is part of six program-records overall.
Truong was sensational in the 500-yard freestyle, coming in with the sixth-best time during qualification, and then finishing fourth overall in the finals with a time of 4:41.45. Senior Isaac Breen-Franklin (Severna Park, Md.) finished 19th overall with a time of 4:51.91.
Junior Lenny Brown (Sommerville, Mass.) posted a time of 21.80 to finish 14th in the 50-yard freestyle, and the Beavers had a pair of strong results in a pair of relay events. The quartet of Jacobi and Brown, along with senior Rene Del Castillo (Cancun, Mexico) and junior Aaron Pomeroy (Cottage Grove, Wisc.) finished sixth in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:26.51, while Breen-Franklin, Jacobi, Truong, and junior Gustavo Chan (Miami, Fla.) came in sixth in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:32.92.
Babson will return to action with day-three preliminaries at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
