Swimming & Diving Falls To Coast Guard, Wellesley

WELLESLEY, Mass.—The Babson College men's and women's swimming & diving teams returned to the pool following the holiday break on Wednesday afternoon at Wellesley College. The women's squad dropped a double-dual meet, falling to the host Blue, 197-67, and the Coast Guard Academy, 211-56, while the men's squad was defeated by the Bears, 142-104, at Chandler Pool.

In the women's half of the meet, sophomore diver Paris Ekman (Fargo, N.D.) put together a pair of strong performances to finish third in the 3-meter competition with a score of 246.70 and fourth at the 1-meter height with 221.85 points. Senior Kendall Ford (Geneva, Ill.) came in fourth in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:28.35 to go along with a seventh-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley.

First-year Reilly Robbins (Centerville, Mass.) came in fifth in the 100-yard backstroke and sixth in the 200 back, while sophomore Madeline Dupre (Fiskdale, Mass.) finished sixth in both the 500- and 1000-yard freestyle events. Senior Ascia Johnson (North Brunswick, N.J.) posted a pair of eighth-place results in the 50 free and 200 free.

On the men's side, the Beavers won four events and picked up five second-place finishes, led by junior An Truong (West Roxbury, Mass.) After opening the meet with a time of 10:08.75 to win the 1000-yard freestyle, he finished with a time of 4:55.03 to claim the 500 free before emerging victorious in the 200 IM with a time of 2:01.27. Sophomore Anton Pronichenko (Palisades, Calif.) also had a big day for the Green and White, winning the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:02.77 and finishing third in the 200 breaststroke.

Sophomore Kevin Shivers (Mercersburg, Pa.) came in second in the 100 backstroke and fourth in the 200 back, first-year Alex Grant (St. Petersburg, Fla.) was second in the 200 butterfly and fourth in the 100 fly, and senior Paris Waranimman (Pebble Beach, Calif.) collected a second-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle. Classmate Purin Waranimman (Pebble Beach, Calif.) was third in the 100 back, fellow senior Aaron Pomeroy (Cottage Grove, Wis.) finished fourth in the 200 free, and classmate Lenny Brown (Somerville, Mass.) came in fourth in the 50 free.

The Beavers' 200-yard medley relay team of Brown, Pronichenko, Truong and junior Andrew Wen (Boxborough, Mass.) came in second with a time of 1:42.09, while the 200 free relay squad of Shivers, Purin Waranimman, junior Chris Roan (East Wareham, Mass.) and first-year Ross Ojerholm (Worcester, Mass.) also finished second with a time of 1:33.06.

Babson returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Gordon College for a 1 p.m. meet.
