Men Earn Eighth Straight Win Over the Fighting Scots
WENHAM, Mass.--The Babson College men's and women's swimming & diving teams combined to post 11 victories and 13 second-place finishes en route to earning a split with Gordon College at the Bennett Center on Saturday afternoon. The men defeated the Fighting Scots, 135-119, while the women fell, 149-91.
Junior An Truong (West Roxbury, Mass.) and sophomore Kevin Shivers (Mercersburg, Pa.) combined to win five races for the Beavers in the men's half of the meet. Truong, who now has 16 victories on the season, opened with a triumph in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:48.69. He then won the 500 free with a time of 4:59.89 and capped the day with a time of 2:01.05 to take the 200-yard individual medley. Shivers claimed the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 26.37 and then won the 100 back in 57.02.
Junior Austen Noh (San Jose, Calif.) posted a victory in the 50-yard breaststroke and was second in the 100 breast, while senior Paris Waranimman (Pebble Beach, Calif.) won the 50 free and junior Chris Roan (East Wareham, Mass.) claimed the 100 breast.
Senior Purin Waranimman (Pebble Beach, Calif.) came in second in both the 50- and 100-yard backstroke, while junior Andrew Wen (Boxborough, Mass.) posted runner-up finishes in the 50- and 100-yard butterfly. Seniors Aaron Pomeroy (Cottage Grove, Wis.) and Lenny Brown (Somerville, Mass.) finished second in the 100 free and 50 free, respectively, and first-year Alex Grant (St. Petersburg, Fla.) had a trio of third-place results.
In the women's half of the meet, senior Kendall Ford (Geneva, Ill.) put together a strong day with a pair of wins to go along with one third-place finish. She took home the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:06.84 and the 200 IM in 2:29.92, and was third in the 50 fly.
First-year Reilly Robbins (Centerville, Mass.) was victorious in the 50 back, posting a time of 31.93, to go along with runner-up finishes in the 100 back and 200 IM. Senior Ascia Johnson (North Brunswick, N.J.) came in second in the 50- and 200-yard freestyle, sophomore Madeline Dupre (Fiskdale, Mass.) finished second in the 500- and 1000-yard free, and classmate Mallory Ham (Norwalk, Conn.) was the runner-up in the 100 free.
Babson returns to action next Saturday when it travels to Wheaton College for a dual meet starting at 1 p.m.
