SPRINGFIELD, Mass.—The Babson College men's swimming & diving team won six events, including three by junior An Truong (West Roxbury, Mass.), but it wasn't enough as the Beavers were defeated by Springfield College, 139-102, in a dual meet on Saturday afternoon at Linkletter Natatorium.
With the win, Springfield moves to 4-7 on the year, while Babson finishes its regular season 5-8.
Truong opened the meet by cruising to a win in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:30.34. He then claimed the 200-yard individual medley in 1:59.90 and was victorious in the 500 free with a time of 4:58.85 to win for the ninth time in nine events over three meets this week.
Sophomore Kevin Shivers (Mercersburg, Pa.) touched the wall first in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 56.33 and was also on Babson's winning 400-yard medley relay team along with senior Aaron Pomeroy (Cottage Grove, Wis.), junior Austen Noh (San Jose, Calif.), and first-year Alex Grant (St. Petersburg, Fla.). Pomeroy added a second-place finish in the 100 free, while Noh was the runner-up in the 100-yard breaststroke and finished third in the 200 IM.
Senior Paris Waranimman (Pebble Beach, Calif.) came in second in the 50 free with a time of 22.92 and third in the 100 free. He also teamed with Pomeroy, senior Purin Waranimman (Pebble Beach, Calif.), and junior Chris Roan (East Wareham, Mass.) to win the 200 free relay in a time of 1:30.48.
With its regular season complete, Babson will now prepare for the four-day New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships, which begin on February 19.
