WORCESTER, Mass.—The Babson College men's and women's swimming & diving teams opened the 2015 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships with three events on Thursday night at the WPI Sports & Recreation Center. The men earned 57 points and sit in sixth place after the 800-yard freestyle relay and 1-meter diving events, while the women are 10th with 26 points after the 800 free relay.
Senior Dominick Tocci (Brookyln, N.Y.) was the Beavers' lone diver to compete on Thursday night, coming in 10th with a score of 344.01 to earn 13 points on the 1-meter board. The men's top relay team of senior Aaron Pomeroy (Cottage Grove, Wis.), juniors Chris Roan (Wareham, Mass.) and An Truong (West Roxbury, Mass.), and first-year Alex Grant (St. Petersburg, Fla.) came in sixth with a time of 7:05.29, while the 'B' team of juniors Carlos Gallagher (Rye, N.Y.) and Andrew Wen (Boxborough, Mass.), sophomore Kevin Shivers (Mercersburg, Pa.) and first-year Ross Ojerholm (Worcester, Mass.) placed 16th with a time of 7:31.25.
On the women's side, the quartet of seniors Kendall Ford (Geneva, Ill.) and Ascia Johnson (North Brunswick, N.J.), sophomore Mallory Ham (Norwalk, Conn.) and first-year Reilly Robbins (Centerville, Mass.) finished 10th with a time of 8:28.63 in the 800 free relay.
Babson returns for day two of the NEWMAC Championships on Friday with preliminaries starting at 10 a.m.
