Swimming & Diving Competes At WPI

WORCESTER, Mass.—The Babson College men's swimming & diving team defeated Brandeis (160-127) and lost to WPI (208-86) to split a double dual meet, while the women's squad fell to the Engineers (262-25) and Judges (196-93), as well as Smith (231-35) at the WPI Sports & Recreation Center on Sunday afternoon.

The Beaver men put together another strong meet with two event victories and eight runner-up finishes on the day. Senior An Truong (West Roxbury, Mass.) continued his torrid start with wins in both the 500-yard freestyle and the 400-yard individual medley to go along with a second-place showing in the 1000-yard freestyle.

Senior Andrew Wen (Boxborough, Mass.) came in second in the 200-yard butterfly and fourth in the 100 butterfly, while classmate Chris Roan (East Wareham, Mass.) was the runner-up in the 100-yard butterfly and posted a fifth-place result in the 200-yard freestyle. Sophomore Mitchell Posk (Boynton Beach, Fla.) came in second in the 50-yard freestyle and fifth in the 100 free, and first-year diver Peter Sorenson (Blacksburg, Va.) finished second on both the 1- and 3-meter boards.

Junior Anton Pronichenko (Palisades, Calif.) came in third in both the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke, while classmate Kevin Shivers (Mercersburg, Pa.) was fourth in the 100-yard backstroke and fifth in the 200 back. Shivers also helped both the 400-yard medley relay and 200-yard freestlye relay teams finish second.

In the women's half of the meet, the Green and White posted eight top-10 finishes. Sophomore Reilly Robbins (Centerville, Mass.) came in fifth in the 100-yard backstroke, while first-year Tessa Amoroso (Rowley, Mass.) was fifth in the 3-meter diving event and sixth on the 1-meter board.

Senior Becca Greenberg (Beverly, Mass.) finished eighth in the 200-yard freestyle, and junior Madeline Dupre (Fiskdale, Mass.) came in with three top-10 results. She came in ninth the 1000-yard freestyle and 10th in both the 500 free and 100-yard breaststroke. Classmate Mallory Ham (Norwalk, Conn.) also finished 10th in the 100-yard backstroke.

Babson returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Norwich in its home opener at Morse Pool starting at 1 p.m.
