Swimming & Diving 10th After Day Two of WPI Invitational

WORCESTER, Mass.—The Babson College men's and women's swimming & diving teams had 12 athletes reach the finals in seven different events and currently sits in 10th place with 542.50 points after 24 events at the WPI Gompei Invitational.

The Beavers picked up 174 points with a 13th-place finish in the men's 800-yard freestyle relay and a third-place showing the women's 25-yard synchronized diving relay on Friday night, and added 368.5 points with a number of strong finishes on Saturday.

First-year Jack Lucero (Huntington Beach, Calif.), who came in sixth in Friday's 1650-yard freestyle, reached the A final of the 500 free with a time of 4:46.79 in the prelims and then finished seventh overall with a time of 4:51.06. He also posted a time of 57.80 in the 100-yard IM in an exhibition run.

Classmate Alex Damiecki (Centerville, Mass.) enjoyed a strong day as he qualified for a pair of B cut finals for the Green and White. He touched the wall with a time of 2:01.87 in the prelims and finished 20th with a time of 2:03.38 in the 200 IM, and then came in 16th with a time of 53.20 in the 100-yard butterfly after recording a time of 52.42 in the prelims.

Senior Anton Pronichenko (Palisades, Calif.) finished 17th in the B final of the 100 IM with a time of 57.85, and was 18th in the B final of the 100-yard breaststroke as he touched the wall in a time of 1:01.03. Classmate Kevin Shivers (Mercersburg, Pa.) came in 20th with a time of 2:05.17 in the B final of the 200-yard backstroke, while junior Mitchell Posk (Boynton Beach, Fla.) recoreded a 21st-place finish with a time of 21.93 in the C final of the 50 free.

Senior Paris Ekman (Fargo, N.D.) and sophomore Tessa Amoroso (Rowley, Mass.) came in third and fourth, respectively, in the women's 3-meter diving competition. Ekman recorded a total of 364.60 to narrowly edge her teammate, who finished with an 11-dive score of 362.80.

First-year Tirza Rentovich (Harrisburg, Pa.) also had a strong day for the Green and White as she reached on B final and one C final two events. Rentovich came in 18th in the B final of the 100 IM with a time of 1:05.88, and finished 30th in the C final of the 100-yard breaststroke after posting a time of 1:15.55.

Babson will wrap up competition at the WPI Gompei Invitational on Sunday with prelims beginning at 8:30 a.m. and the finals getting underway at 4:30 p.m.
