WORCESTER, Mass.—The Babson College men's and women's swimming & diving teams concluded competition at the WPI Gompei Invitational on Sunday night. The Beavers scored points in eight events on the day and finished 10th overall with 792.5 points at the three-day meet.
The Green and White got points from five swimmers and two divers on Sunday, led by first-year Jack Lucero (Huntington Beach, Calif.). He recorded the third fastest qualifying time (4:15.52) in the prelims of the 400-yard individual medley and finished seventh in the A final with a time of 4:17.09. Lucero also recorded a 20th-place showing with a time of 2:04.05 in the B final of the 200-yard butterfly.
Senior Paris Ekman (Fargo, N.D.) was the top Babson female performer of the day as she finished third in the 1-meter diving competition. After qualifying third with a score of 413.90, she finished third overall in the finals with a score of 400.00 in the 11-dive event. Sophomore Tessa Amoroso (Rowley, Mass.), who finished fourth on the 3-meter board on Saturday, posted a score of 350.40 to come in eighth in the 1-meter event.
Senior Anton Pronichenko (Palisades, Calif.) qualified for the B final and finished 15th overall with a time of 2:14.57 in the men's 200-yard breaststroke, while junior Alex Grant (St. Petersburg, Fla.) reached the B final in the men's 200 butterfly and came in 17th with a time of 2:01.06. Classmate Mitchell Posk (Boynton Beach, Fla.) also had a strong day for the Beavers as he qualified for the C final in the 200-yard freestyle, where he came in 21st with a time of 1:48.38, after recording a 25th-place showing with a time of 48.84 in the 100 free C final.
Senior Kevin Shivers (Mercersburg, Pa.) qualified for the C final in the men's 100-yard backstroke and finished 22nd overall with a time of 56.55, while first-year Michael Cerny (Windsor, Conn.) also competed in the event and just missed reaching the finals after recording a preliminary time of 59.66.
Senior Madeline Dupre (Fiskdale, Mass.) came in 32nd in the women's 1650-yard freestyle prelims and 35th in her qualifying heat for the 400-yard IM. Classmate Mallory Ham (Norwalk, Conn.) also narrowly missed reaching the finals in the 200 butterfly where she came in 39th with a time of 2:40.38.
Babson will return to competition on January 5 in a dual meet against Coast Guard at Wellesley beginning at 1 p.m.
