Men's Swimming & Diving 7th after Opening Night at NEWMAC Championship

WORCESTER, Mass.—The Babson College men's swimming & diving team earned 55 points in the 800-yard freestyle relay and sit in seventh place after the opening night of competition at the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship on Thursday at WPI.

The Beavers' top relay squad of senior Kevin Shivers (Mercersburg, Pa.), juniors Mitchell Posk (Boynton Beach, Fla.) and Alex Grant (St. Petersburg, Fla.), and first-year Jack Lucero (Huntington Beach, Calif.) came in sixth with a time of 7:05.87, which bettered their previous best time in the event by more than 10 seconds.

Babson's 'B' relay team of junior Ross Ojerholm (Worcester, Mass.), sophomores Adam Kershner (Scottsdale, Ariz.) and Kenneth Mun (Hacienda Heights, Calif.), and first-year Michael Cerny (Windsor, Conn.) placed 15th with a time of 7:28.47.

In addition to the relay, Beavers' first-year diver Jason Trefry (Danvers, MAss.) placed 12th in the prelims of the 3-meter diving event with an 11-dive scored of 253.55.

Babson returns to the pool for the second day of competition on Friday. Prelims begin at 10 a.m., while the finals get started at 6 p.m.
