Swimming & Diving Wins 19 Events, Splits Season-Opening Dual Meet at UMass Dartmouth

DARTMOUTH, Mass.—The Babson College swimming & diving teams combined to win 19 events in their season opener at UMass Dartmouth on Saturday afternoon. The men posted a 170-117 victory, while the women fell to the Corsairs, 137-112.

The Beavers got a number of solid individual performances, led by three victories from sophomore Jack Lucero (Huntington Beach, Calif.). He was victorious in both the 500- and 1000-yard freestyle, and also touched the wall first in the 200-yard butterfly.

Senior Mitchell Posk (Boynton Beach, Fla.) was first in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle, and sophomore Alex Damiecki (Centerville, Mass.) won the 100-yard breaststroke and 100-yard butterfly. First-year Taras Polakoff (Orange County, Calif.) collected wins in both the 100- and 200-yard backstroke, while joining both Posk and Damiecki on Babson's victorious 200-yard medley and 400-yard freestyle relay squads.

First-year Kaden Shover (Boca Raton, Fla.) recorded a first-place finish in the 200 free, while classmate Connor O'Brien (Tempe, Ariz.) added a second-place finish in the 1000 free and a third-place result in the 200 breaststroke. Junior Adam Kershner (Scottsdale, Ariz.) was the runner-up in the 200 backstroke, and first-years Kevin Luu (Malden, Mass.) and Lachlan Dibbayawan (Bangkok, Thailand) came in second in the 100 backstroke and 50-yard freestyle, respectively.

The Babson women put together a strong opening-day performance that included eight event victories, and multiple wins by three different swimmers. Sophomore Tirza Rentovich (Harrisburg, Pa.) won the 50- and 100-yard freestyle events, first-year Jordan Mailly (Glastonbury, Conn.) touched the wall first in the 200 free and 200 backstroke, and classmate Celine Nie (Irvine, Calif.) triumphed in the 100-yard butterfly and 200-yard individual medley.

Mailly also recorded a second-place finish in the 500 free, while first-year Julia Ferrara (Coto de Caza, Calif.) was the runner-up in both the 1000 free and 100-yard breaststroke. First-year Nataliya Gowan (San Antonio, Texas) finished second in the 100 back and 200 back, and classmate Luna Zhang (Auburndale, Mass.) added a second-place result in the 200 breaststroke.

In addition to the individual success, the Beavers won both relay events as Gowan, Zhang, Rentovich and Nie posted a four-second victory in the 200-yard medley relay, while Rentovich, Ferrara, Gowan and Mailly claimed the 400-yard freestyle relay by better than three seconds.

Babson returns to action next Friday when it travels to WPI for a series of dual meets beginning at 7 p.m. The men will take on Brandeis and the host Engineers, while the women will face WPI, Brandeis and Smith.
