Swimming & Diving Drops Dual Meets to Wellesley, Coast Guard

WELLESLEY, Mass.—The Babson College men's and women's swimming & diving team combined to record 14 top-three finishes in their respective dual meets against the Coast Guard Academy and host Wellesley College at Chandler Pool.

The Babson women suffered losses to both Wellesley (179-59) and Coast Guard (171-55), while the men were defeated by the Bears, 152-72.

The top finisher in the women's half of the meet was first-year Celine Nie (Irvine, Calif.), who came in second with a time of 56.58 in the 1000-yard freestyle. Sophomore Tirza Rentovich (Harrisburg, Pa.) placed third in the 50-yard freestyle, touching the wall with a time of 25.42, while junior Tessa Amoroso (Rowley, Mass.) finished third on both the 1- and 3-meter diving boards.

Babson added third-place showings in both relay events as Nie, Rentovich and first-years Jordan Mailly (Glastonbury, Conn.) and Nataliya Gowan (San Antonio, Texas) posted a time of 4:17.95 in the 400 medley, while Rentovich, Nie, Gowan and first-year Julia Ferrara (Coto de Caza, Calif.) touched the wall with a time of 1:45.25 in the 200 free relay. Mailly also recorded a pair of individual fourth-place results in the 200 free and 200 butterfly.

In the men's half of the meet against Coast Guard, the Green and White collected a pair of wins and three runner-up finishes. The quartet of senior Mitchell Posk (Boynton Beach, Fla.), sophomore Alex Damiecki (Centerville, Mass.) and first-years Lachlan Dibbayawan (Bangkok, Thailand) and Kevin Luu (Malden, Mass.) recorded a winning time of 3:34.93 in the 400 medley relay to open the meet.

Damiecki followed up the relay win by touching the wall first with a time of 1:55.73 in the 200-yard butterfly. Posk added a second-place showing with a time of 21.78 in the 50-yard freestyle, while senior Alex Grant (St. Petersburg, Fla.) was the runner-up in the 500 free.

Sophomore Jack Lucero (Huntington Beach, Calif.) came in third in the 1000 free, fourth in the 200 IM and collected first-place points in the 200 breaststroke. Dibbayawan finished third in the 200 free, senior Ross Ojerholm (Worcester, Mass.) placed third in the 100 free and first-year Taras Polakoff (Orange County, Calif.) came in fourth in the 200 backstroke.

Babson will return to action on Saturday when it travels to Wheaton for a 12 p.m. meet.
