Mills Named Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving Assistant Coach at Babson

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Babson College head men's swimming and diving coach Kristy Martin-Jones announced the hiring of Brad Mills as the program's new assistant coach on Wednesday.

Mills comes to Babson after one season as a volunteer assistant coach with the nationally-ranked MIT men's and women's swimming & diving programs. The Engineers sent 14 men and 14 women to the NCAA Division III National Championships last winter, where they finished sixth on the men's side and ninth on the women's.

In addition to his work with the swimming & diving programs, Mills served as the assistant director of aquatics at MIT. He served as a private swim instructor, managed a lifeguard staff of more than 50, and served as the event manager for a number of swim meets inside the Zesiger Center.

"We are very excited to add Brad to our coaching staff," commented Martin-Jones. "His work ethic and ability to coach all levels of swimmers will be a great asset to the program. He knows the NEWMAC and will make an immediate impact recruiting. I'm looking forward to working with him and excited for all that he will bring to the program!"

Mills was a three-year member of the men's swimming & diving program at Springfield College from 2011-14. He achieved NCAA cuts in both the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke during his career, and helped the Pride record three top-three finishes at the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships.

Mills got his start in coaching with the East Longmeadow Marlins swim team in the spring of 2013 while serving as the aquatics director for the town of East Longmeadow. He also took over as the head swim coach at East Longmeadow High School in December 2015 and led both programs to three straight Division 2 State Championships appearances. The girls team posted three top-15 finishes, coming in as high as 10th in 2017, while the boys finished 18th in 2018.

"I am excited to join the Babson College community as the men's & women's swimming and diving assistant coach," said Mills. "I'd like to thank Kristy for the opportunity and I look forward to help building the success of Babson's talented student athletes."

After completing his undergraduate degree in 2015, Mills earned his master of education degree from Springfield in December 2017.
