Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving Sweep Norwich and Regis

NORTHFIELD, Vt.—The Babson College men's and women's swimming & diving teams continued their strong start to the year by winning 18 of 24 events in a double dual meet sweep on Saturday afternoon at Goodyear Pool. The men eased past both Norwich University (132-98) and Regis College (157-23), while the Beavers beat both the host Cadets (132-95) and Pride (145-67) in the women's half of the meet.

The Babson men (5-0) won 10 of 11 swimming events and got multiple victories from senior Alex Damiecki (Centerville, Mass.) and first-years Alvin Oentoro (Houston, Texas) and Charles Wang (San Marino, Calif.). Damiecki won the 100-yard backstroke in a season-best time of 55.18 after taking first place in the 1000-yard freestyle in 10.28.81. Wang touched the wall first in the 50-yard freestyle (21.50) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:01.04), while Oentoro posted first-place results in the 200 free (1:46.38) and 100 butterfly (53.83).

Sophomore Aaron Huynh (Mission Viejo, Calif.) won the 500 free and joined junior Lachlan Dibbayawan (Bangkok, Thailand) as one of two swimmers to help the Beavers post victories in both the 200 free and 200 medley relays. First-year Mark Fanelli (La Cañada, Calif.) also recorded an individual win by touching the wall first with a time of 2:03.84 in the 200-yard IM.

Senior Jack Lucero (Huntington Beach, Calif.) came in behind Oentoro in both the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly, while sophomore Aiden Asuncion-Duong (Ladera Ranch, Calif.) was the runner-up in the 100 free. Fanelli added a second-place showing in the 100-yard backstroke and Dibbayawan placed third in the 200 free.

In the women's half of the meet, Babson (6-1) got victories from six different swimmers. First-year Angela Li (Belmont, Mass.) won both the 100-yard breaststroke (1:11.61) and 200-yard IM (2:17.83) in season-best times, and also was a part of the team's victory in the 200-yard medley.

Senior Tirza Rentovich (Harrisburg, Pa.), who was part of both wins in the relays, came in first in the 1000-yard freestyle, while first-year Leah Smith (Sidney, Maine) won the 1000 free by more than 25 seconds before placing second in the 500 free. Classmate Caitlin Caron (Cheshire, Conn.) touched the wall first with a time of 1:03.00 in the 100-yard backstroke, and fellow rookie Lindsay Nowak (Charlotte, N.C.) was victorious with a time of 1:03.05 in the 100-yard butterfly.

First-year Molly Cox (Cheshire, Conn.) was the runner-up in both the 100-yard butterfly and 200 free. Junior Celine Nie (Irvine, Calif.) finished just 0.19 seconds behind Caron in the 100 back, while sophomores Abigail Voce (Oxford, N.Y.) and Elizabeth Demoine (Avon-by-the-Sea, N.J.) each registered a pair of top-three results. Voce was second in the 50 free and third in the 100 free, while Demoine was the runner-up in the 100-yard breaststroke and third in the 200 IM.

The Babson men return to action on Sunday when they host Springfield at 1 p.m., while the women take on Clark in their home opener next Saturday at 2 p.m.
