Strong Singles Play Helps Men's Tennis Rally Past Wheaton, 6-3

BABSON PARK, Mass. -- Babson College bounced back from an early 2-1 deficit to take five of the six singles matches en route to a 6-3 victory over visiting Wheaton College in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's tennis match at the Farwell Courts on Sunday. With the win, the Beavers moved to 4-6 overall and 1-0 league play, while the Lyons dropped to 3-2 overall and 0-1 in the NEWMAC.

Wheaton grabbed a quick 2-1 lead in doubles play, receiving an 8-4 victory from senior Neall Oliver (Portland, Maine) and sophomore Ned Terrace (Chappaqua, N.Y.) at number one and an 8-2 win from first-year Lawrence Chan (Lincoln, R.I.) and sophomore Dan Sharon (Santa Monica, Calif.) at number two. The Beavers' salvaged their first point of the day at the number three spot, where the duo of junior Zach Ringer (Minnetonka, Minn.) and first-year Roy Murdock (Santa Monica, Calif.) gutted out a hard-fought 8-6 triumph.

Babson put the match away with a dominating performance in singles play, led by a 6-2, 6-4 victory by first-year Ramone Doyley (Kingston, Jamaica) at number one and a 6-1, 6-1 drubbing by senior Nissim Cohen-Sabban (Chula Vista, Calif.) at two. Murdock notched his second win of the day at number three, 6-3, 7-6 (4), senior captain Danny Schneider (Littleton, Mass.) added a 6-3, 6-1 victory at five, and junior Rushab Tanna (Burlington, Mass.) tacked on a 6-3, 6-2 win at six.

Wheaton claimed its lone singles point at number four, where sophomore Sam Jackson (Darien, Conn.) secured a 6-4, 6-2 victory.
