WELLESLEY, Mass. – First-years Victor Vu (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Davin Garcia (Essex Junction, Vt.) combined for three wins to help the Babson College men's tennis team open its spring season with a 6-3 victory over Bentley College in an indoor contest at the Boston Sports Club on Saturday.
Babson (4-1) led 2-1 after the doubles matches, as senior Mitchell Henry (Wellesley, Mass.) and first-year Roberto Perez (Pozuelo de Alarcon, Spain) earned an 8-0 win at two and Vu and Garcia teamed up for an 8-3 victory at three. Bentley (3-2) took the number one match as the Falcons' Rodrigo Ribeiro (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Kamil Pilch (Wroclaw, Poland) topped sophomores Ramone Doyley (Kingston, Jamaica) and Connor DeFiore (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) by a score of 8-5.
The Beavers quickly pushed their lead to 4-1 in singles play, as DeFiore won his match at number four, 6-4, 6-1, and Vu took his match at two, 6-1, 7-6 (4). Bentley then closed the gap by taking the next two contests in three sets, with Ribeiro winning at one, 6-4, 2-6, 6-3, and Pilch prevailing at three, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. However, Babson put the match away with wins in the bottom two singles spots, as Garcia won at five, 6-2, 7-6 (4) and sophomore Roy Murdock (Santa Monica, Calif.) coasted at six, 6-1, 6-1.
