Men's Tennis Falls To Tufts, 8-1

CLAREMONT, Calif.—First-year Roberto Perez (Pozuelo de Alarcon, Spain) picked up a straight set victory at number one singles and Babson College pushed a pair of matches to a third-set superbreaker but came up on the losing end of an 8-1 decision to local rival Tufts University on the final day of their west coast swing on Friday.

With the loss Babson drops to 4-4 overall while Tufts moves to 5-1 with its second straight win.

Perez picked up his third win of the season by topping the Jumbos' Ben Barad (San Rafael, Calif.) 6-3, 6-4 to grab the Beavers' lone point. Victor Vu (Los Angeles, Calif.) won the first set 6-2 over Nick Telkedzhiev (Plovdiv, Bulgaria) at number two singles, but fell 7-6 in the second set and dropped a tiebreaker 10-5, while sophomore Connor DeFiore (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) split the first two sets with Tufts' Rob Jacobson (Winnetka, Ill.) at number five singles before losing 10-6 in a tiebreaker.

Babson returns to action on Thursday afternoon when they travel to Brandeis for a 3:00pm start while Tufts while host Bates next Saturday at 11:00am.
