Men's Tennis Earns First NCAA Tournament Bid Since 1997
BABSON PARK, Mass.—A week after reaching the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) championship match, the Babson College men's tennis team earned a Pool B selection to the 2013 NCAA Division III Championship when the field was announced on May 6. The berth was the program's first to the national tournament since 1997.
A total of 44 teams earned a place in the championship, and the Beavers were one of seven teams chosen from Pool B, which is made up of independent institutions and schools from conferences that do not have an automatic bid for their champions. The Green and White were defeated by The College of New Jersey, 5-1, in a first round match at Amherst College on May 9.
Babson, which won six of its final eight matches, closed its season at 11-9 and posted its most wins since the 2007-08 season. The Beavers finished second in the regular season standings, advanced to the NEWMAC final for the first time since 2009.
