NEW LONDON, Conn.—Sophomores Roberto Perez (Pozuelo de Alcaron, Spain) and Victor Vu (Los Angeles, Calif.) won a pair of matches at number one doubles and Perez went 2-0 at number one singles, headlining a successful day for the Babson College men's tennis team at the Connecticut College-Coast Guard Tournament on Saturday afternoon.
Perez and Vu picked up 8-5 and 8-4 wins in their two doubles matches, while the duo of junior Connor DeFiore (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) and sophomore Saif Rahim (Hong Kong) went 2-0 at number two doubles, winning 8-4 and 8-3. Sophomore Davin Garcia (Essex Junction, Vt.) and Dom Wysolmerski (Rutland, Vt.) bounced back from a 9-7 loss in their first match to claim an 8-0 victory in a consolation match.
Perez dropped just five games in winning his two matches at number two singles, while four others won their first match before falling in the finals of their flight. Vu won 7-6, 7-5 before falling 8-5 at number one singles, and DeFiore picked up a 7-6, 6-4 victory in his first match before dropping a 6-3, 6-2 decision in the finals. Garcia won the first set of his championship match at number five singles before falling 3-6, 6-4, 10-7, and Rahim followed his 6-1, 6-2 victory at number six singles with a 6-1, 6-3 defeat.
The Beavers return to action next Friday when they head to Middlebury College for the start of the ITA New England Regional Championships.
