MIDDLEBURY, Vt.—Sophomores Roberto Perez (Pozuelo de Alarcon, Spain) and Victor Vu (Los Angeles, Calif.) opened up play at the 2013 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) New England Championships at Middlebury College on Friday, seeing action in both the singles and doubles draws.
Perez and Vu both had tough opening round draws in the 64-player singles bracket and dropped their first-round matches. Perez was beaten 6-3, 7-5 by fourth-seeded Matt Micheli (San Francisco, Calif.) of Williams, while Vu won the first set against first-year Kenny Gea (Irvine, Calif.) of conference rival MIT, but was unable to hold on, falling 3-6, 7-5, 6-4.
The duo also dropped their first round match in doubles action, losing 8-3 to senior Brantner Jones (Winnetka, Ill.) and sophomore Palmer Campbell (Nashville, Tenn.) of Middlebury.
The Beavers close out their fall portion of the schedule at home next Saturday when they take on RPI at 2:30pm.
