BOSTON, Mass.—After receiving an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament last spring, the Babson College men's tennis team was picked to finish second when the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) released its first-ever preseason poll on Thursday morning.
MIT, which has won every NEWMAC title going back to 1999, collected six of the seven first-place votes to come in first, followed by the Beavers, who finished second a year ago. Wheaton was tabbed to finish third, followed by Clark in fourth and Coast Guard in fifth. Emerson, which joined the league in July, collected one first-place vote and came in sixth, while Springfield rounded out the poll in seventh place.
The Green and White returns four of its top six players from last season, led by the sophomore duo of Roberto Perez (Pozuelo de Alarcon, Spain) and Victor Vu (Los Angeles, Calif.). Perez won 10 matches at number one singles en route to earning NEWMAC Rookie of the Year honors, while Vu earned all-conference honors and won a team-high 13 doubles matches.
Babson opens the season at TCNJ on Saturday afternoon.
