Babson and TCNJ will meet for the sixth time since 1997 on Saturday afternoon. The Beavers are just 1-4 all-time against the Lions and have dropped four consecutive matches in the series.
TCNJ swept the three doubles matches and got victories at number five and six singles to defeat Babson, 5-1, in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament on May 9, 2013, in Longmeadow, Mass. Sophomore Roberto Perez earned the Beavers lone point with a straight-set victory at number one singles.
The Beavers picked up a 4-3 victory over TCNJ on April 6, 1997, in a match played at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Conn.
SCOUTING THE LIONS:
TCNJ (0-0) went 15-2 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the fifth straight season last spring. The Lions return seven letterwinners led by sophomore Pierce Cooper, who went 21-1 in singles play last year. Classmate Billy Buckbinder won 10 singles matches and was 17-4 in doubles, while senior Howard Telson went 16-5 in singles and 14-3 in doubles matches in 2013. TCNJ has won 16 consecutive home matches going back to 2012.
SCOUTING THE BEAVERS:
Babson (0-2) opens its spring season after finishing 11-9 and earning its first NCAA Tournament berth since 1997 last season. Perez earned conference rookie of the year honors after recording 10 victories at number one singles and 11 doubles matches. First-year Victor Vu, who also garnered all-league accolades, led the Beavers with 11 singles victories and 13 doubles triumphs, while sophomores Connor DeFiore and Ramone Doyley combined to win six doubles matches to go with seven singles victories apiece.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
The Beavers 11 victories in 2012-2013 were the fifth-most in program history and equaled the most by any team since 2004-05.
