No. 23 Bates Defeats Men's Tennis, 7-2

LEWISTON, Maine—Bates College, ranked 23rd in the most recent ITA national poll, claimed two of the three doubles matches and won five singles matches in straight sets en route to a 7-2 victory over visiting Babson College in non-conference men's tennis action on Friday evening at the Merrill Indoor Courts.

With the win, Bates is now 1-3 overall, while Babson drops to 1-4.

Junior Ramone Doyley (Kingston, Jamaica) earned the Beavers lone point in singles play, rallying for a 0-6, 7-5, 7-5 victory over first-year Brent Feldman (Waccabuc, N.Y.) at number four. Doyley also paired with fellow junior Connor DeFiore (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) to pick up an 8-6 triumph over seniors Peter Yanofsky (Belmont, Mass.) and Ben Bogard (Lido Beach, N.Y.) at number two doubles.

Sophomore Isaac Thylen (Surfside, Fla.) lost 6-4, 7-5 at number three singles, while classmate Roberto Perez (Pozuelo de Alarcon, Spain) fell 6-2, 6-3 at number one. Fellow sophomore Victor Vu (Los Angeles, Calif.) was defeated 6-3, 6-2 at second singles.

Babson returns to action on Monday, March 17, at 10 a.m. against Grinnell in Orlando, Fla., while Bates hosts Hamilton on Sunday.
