WINTER PARK, Fla.—Trailing 2-1 after doubles, the Babson College men's tennis team won five of six singles matches, including four in straight sets, to rally for a 6-3 victory over Oglethorpe University in non-conference men's tennis action on Wednesday afternoon.
With the win, Babson is now 2-4 on the year, while Oglethorpe drops to 5-6.
Sophomores Roberto Perez (Pozuelo de Alarcon, Spain) and Victor Vu (Los Angeles, Calif.) started the comeback with victories at number one and two singles, respectively. Perez dropped just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 win and Vu, after winning the first set in a tie break, cruised to a 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 triumph. Classmate Isaac Thylen (Surfside, Fla.) dropped the first set but rallied for a 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 win at number three singles, and junior Connor DeFiore (Bloomfield Hills, Mich) won 6-1, 6-4 at number five while sophomore Saif Rahim (Hong Kong) coasted to a 6-3, 6-2 decision at number six.
Rahim and Thylen were lone duo to earn a point in doubles play for the Green and White, picking up an 8-6 victory at number three. Both Perez and Vu at number one and DeFiore and junior Ramone Doyley (Kingston, Jamaica) lost 8-6.
Babson wraps up its trip to Florida on Thursday when it takes on Puget Sound at 8:30 a.m. in Orlando
