Men's Tennis Overpowers Springfield, 9-0

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Five different players earned points in both singles and doubles matches as Babson College rolled to a 9-0 shutout of visiting Springfield College in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's tennis action on Saturday afternoon at the Farwell Courts.

With its second consecutive victory, Babson is now 7-6 overall and 4-0 in conference play, while Springfield drops to 6-7 and 0-5 in the NEWMAC.

Junior Ramone Doyley (Kingston, Jamaica), sophomores Saif Rahim (Hong Kong), Isaac Thylen (Surfside, Fla.) and Victor Vu (Los Angeles, Calif.), and first-year Dom Wysolmerski (Rutland, Vt.) each earned two points on the day. Junior Connor DeFiore (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) was victorious at number one doubles with Doyley, while sophomore Davin Garcia (Essex Junction, Vt.) picked up his first dual-match win of the year, 6-3, 6-1, at number six singles.

DeFiore and Doyley needed a tiebreaker to claim a 9-8 (8-1) victory at number one doubles, Rahim and Thylen cruised to an 8-3 result at number two, and Vu and Wysolmerski breezed to an 8-1 triumph at number three.

Each of the Beavers six singles matches were decided in straight sets as Vu rolled to a 6-3, 6-1 win at number one, Thylen dropped just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 victory at number two and Doyley won easily at number three, 6-2, 6-3. Rahim claimed a 6-2, 6-2 triumph at number four and Wysolmerski finished with a 6-4, 6-4 result at fifth singles.

Babson, which is 4-0 in league play for the first time since 2009, travels to Wheaton Wednesday for a 4 p.m. match, while Springfield will host UMass-Dartmouth on Thursday at 4 p.m.
