BABSON PARK, Mass.—After rolling to three wins in doubles play, Babson College swept all six singles, including five in straight sets, en route to a 9-0 shutout of UMass-Boston in non-conference men's tennis action on Thursday afternoon at Farwell Courts.
With its fourth consecutive victory, Babson is now 9-6 on the year, while UMass-Boston, which had won five of its last six matches, drops to 5-7 overall.
Sophomore Roberto Perez (Pozuelo de Alarcon, Spain), who had missed the last three matches, returned and won 8-3 at number one doubles along with classmate Victor Vu (Los Angles, Calif.). Fellow sophomores Saif Rahim (Hong Kong) and Isaac Thylen (Surfside, Fla.) cruised to an 8-3 victory at second doubles, and classmate Davin Garcia (Essex Junction, Vt.) and first-year Dom Wysolmerski (Rutland, Vt.) posted an 8-3 triumph at number three.
Perez, who has now won seven straight matches, and Thylen rolled to identical 6-0, 6-1 wins at number one and three singles, respectively, while Rahim was victorious by a score of 6-1, 6-0 at number four. Wysolmerski triumphed 7-5, 6-1 at number five, Garcia won 6-2, 6-3 at number six, and Vu, who split the first two sets at number two, prevailed 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (10-5).
Both teams return to action on Saturday at 1 p.m. when it hosts MIT in a battle of NEWMAC-unbeatens, while UMass-Boston travels to UMass-Dartmouth.
