WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass.—Seniors Isaac Thylen (Surfside, Fla.) and Victor Vu (Los Angeles, Calif.) got the Babson College men's tennis team's season underway on Friday, competing in the ITA New England Championships at Williams College.
Both players dropped first-round matches in the 64-player singles bracket as Thylen fell to fourth-seeded Ari Smolyar of Middlebury College, 6-3, 6-3, while Vu won the first set before being defeated 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 by Tyler Adams of the University of Southern Maine.
The duo picked up their first win of the year in the 32-team doubles draw, edging Adams and Ian Karby of Southern Maine, 8-6. Thylen and Vu were unable to advance past the second round though, as they suffered an 8-0 loss to Smolyar and Palmer Campbell of Middlebury.
The Beavers return to action next Saturday in their final event of the fall season when they travel to New London, Conn., for the Coast Guard-Connecticut College Tournament.
