BOSTON—Following the program's first regular-season league title last spring, the Babson College men's tennis squad picked up two first-place votes and came in second when the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) released its preseason coaches' poll on Wednesday afternoon.
MIT, which captured its 17th consecutive NEWMAC Tournament championship last season, received five first-place votes and came in first. The Coast Guard Academy came in third, while Clark University and Wheaton College finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
The Green and White returns a trio of all-conference performers after setting a school record for wins and finishing 14-4 overall and 7-0 in league play last season. Senior Isaac Thylen (Surfside, Fla.) went 17-1 overall, including a 16-0 at number one and two singles on his way to earning NEWMAC Athlete of the Year honors, while classmates Roberto Perez (Pozuelo de Alarcon, Spain) and Victor Vu (Los Angeles, Calif.) were both named to the all-conference singles and doubles teams for the second year in a row.
Babson opens the spring portion of its schedule at Bates College on Friday, March 4, at 4 p.m.
