BOSTON—Babson College senior Roberto Perez (Pozuelo de Alarcon, Spain) and first-year Brandon Rosenbluth (Pound Ridge, N.Y.) swept the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) weekly awards on Monday. The duo was selected as the league's doubles team of the week, while Perez also was tabbed as the singles player of the week by the conference.
Perez and Rosenbluth went 3-0 in doubles, including a pair of wins at number one, in a 3-1 week for the Beavers. They topped Jon Kraiger and Ben Sachs, 8-6, in the Beavers' 8-1 triumph at Connecticut College on Wednesday, and then won a pair of matches over NESCAC foes over the weekend. After opening with an 8-5 triumph over Jay Glickman and Zain Ali of 13th-ranked Tufts, the duo downed the region's eighth-ranked pairing, Carl Reid and Vlad Murad of Colby, 8-5, as part of a 7-2 win over the Mules on Sunday.
Perez continued his stellar play by winning all three of his singles matches at number one. He breezed to wins over Kraiger (6-2, 6-1) and Rob Jacobson of Tufts (6-0, 6-2) before saving his biggest victory for last. After splitting the first two sets against Reid, a two-time All-America selection and the region's seventh-ranked player, Perez fought off two match points in a 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (11-9) triumph on Sunday.
Babson (7-7, 2-0 NEWMAC) will host three conference foes this week, beginning with Coast Guard on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
