Men's Tennis Downs Coast Guard, 6-3

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Babson College built a one-point lead after doubles and won three of the top four singles matches in straight sets to defeat the visiting Coast Guard Academy, 6-3, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's tennis action on Wednesday afternoon at Farwell Courts.

Babson, which has won three straight and five of its last six matches, is now 8-7 overall and 3-0 in conference play, while Coast Guard falls to 8-6 overall and 2-2 in the NEWMAC.

Senior Roberto Perez (Pozuelo de Alarcon, Spain) and first-year Brandon Rosenbluth (Pound Ridge, N.Y.) got the Beavers on the board with an easy 8-1 win at number two doubles, while junior Dom Wysolmerski (Rutland, Vt.) and sophomore Ben Roque (Coral Gables, Fla.) followed with an 8-6 victory at number three. The Bears avoided the sweep in doubles as seniors Mark Guentert (Lilburn, Ga.) and Weston Fortna (Lebanon, Pa.) outlasted Babson seniors Saif Rahim (Hong Kong) and Victor Vu (Los Angeles, Calif.) at number one, 9-8 (7-4).

The Green and White regained control of the match in singles behind its veterans. Perez was a 6-1, 6-0 winner at number one, senior Isaac Thylen (Surfside, Fla.) cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 result at number two and Vu picked up a 7-5, 6-0 victory at number three.

Rosenbluth dropped the first set before rallying for a 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-6) at number four. Roque claimed the first set at number five singles, but suffered a 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-2) loss, while first-year Ho Wang Alastair Ng (Hong Kong) dropped a 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (10-5) decision at number six.
