NEW LONDON, Conn.—The Babson College men's tennis team opened the fall portion of its 2017-18 schedule at the Connecticut College Tournament on Saturday. The Beavers went 7-3 in doubles and 8-4 in singles play against Wheaton, Holy Cross and the host Camels.
Sophomore Alberto De Mendiola (San Jose, Costa Rica) and junior Brandon Rosenbluth (Pound Ridge, N.Y.) went 2-0 in the A doubles flight, while first-years Chris Kolesnik (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Andre Libnic (Coral Gables, Fla.) won both their matches in the B flight. Senior Connor Chin (Lexington, Mass.) and sophomore Dylan Pace (Atherton, Calif.) were also victorious in a pair of D flight matches for the Green and White.
In singles action, Babson won six of nine first-round matches. De Mendiola posted a 6-2, 6-2 result in the A bracket, Libnic was a 6-1, 6-1 winner in the C flight, and Kolesnik recorded a 6-3, 7-6 victory in the D draw. Libnic also collected a three-set win in his second singles match of the day.
First-year Cameron Gruss (Kittery, Maine) registered a 6-0, 6-1 win in his first round E flight match, while senior Dylan Levy (Miami, Fla.) posted a 6-2, 6-1 victory in the F bracket. Sophomore Scott Riester (Lynnfield, Mass.) picked up a straight-set win in his first H flight match, and followed it up with a three-set triumph to wrap up the day.
The Beavers return to action on Friday when they open play at the ITA New England Championships at Middlebury.
