WESTWOOD, Mass.—The Babson College men's tennis squad grabbed one first-place vote and was picked to finish second when the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) released its preseason coaches' poll on Thursday.
MIT, which captured its 19th consecutive title last spring, collected six of seven first-place votes to finish atop the poll. Coast Guard Academy came in behind the Beavers in third place, Springfield College was fourth, and Clark University and Wheaton College tied for fifth.
The Green and White returns nine players from a team that finished 11-9 overall and 5-1 in conference play last season. Babson closed out the regular season by winning six of its final eight matches, and reached the NEWMAC Tournament final for the fifth consecutive season under veteran head coach Jim Berrigan.
After competing in three tournaments back in the fall, the Beavers open their dual match schedule at the Boston Sports Club against Endicott on Saturday, March 3, at 3 p.m.
