MIDDLEBURY, Vt.—Two members of the Babson College men's tennis team picked up victories on the opening day of competition at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) New England Championships on Friday at Middlebury College.
Senior Brandon Rosenbluth (Pound Ridge, N.Y.) and junior Alberto De Mendiola (San Jose, Costa Rica) advanced out of the first round of the 32-team doubles draw with an 8-2 win over the fifth-seeded duo of Scott Altmeyer and Sumukh Pathi of Colby College. The Beavers' top pairing will now take on Peter Anker and Zach Fleischman of Wesleyan University on Saturday morning.
De Mendiola won his opening round singles match over Rajan Vohra of Brandeis University, 6-2, 6-2, before falling to top-seeded Lubomir Cuba of Middlebury in the second round, 6-3, 6-2. Sophomore Andre Libnic (Coral Gables, Fla.) also took part in singles and suffered a 6-2, 6-4 setback against Adam Guo of the host Panthers in the first round.
De Mendiola and Rosenbluth will return to action on Saturday at 9 a.m.
