BABSON PARK, Mass.—Four different players were victorious in singles and doubles to help Babson College defeat visiting Merrimack College, 7-2, in non-conference men's tennis action on Tuesday afternoon at the Babson Tennis Complex.
With the win, Babson improves to 2-0 while Merrimack slips to 2-2 overall.
Senior Brandon Rosenbluth (Pound Ridge, N.Y.) and junior Alberto De Mendiola (San Jose, Costa Rica) won 8-7 at number one doubles, while sophomores Andre Libnic (Coral Gables, Fla.) and Ariel Ilarsan Russo (Buenos Aires, Argentina) posted an 8-4 victory at number three doubles. The Warriors duo of junior Tyler Clontz (Naples, Fla.) and first-year Brandon Grill (Fort Lee, N.J.) defeated sophomore Chris Kolesnik (Staten Island, N.Y.) and first-year Tyler Zhang (Southborough, Mass.) at second doubles to cut the Beavers' lead to 2-1.
De Mendiola was a 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 winner at number one singles, Libnic recorded a 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 victory at number two, and Rosenbluth earned a 6-2, 6-4 result at number four. Russo picked up a 6-4, 6-3 win at number five, while Zhang cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 triumph at number six.
Merrimack's lone singles win came at number four where first-year Conrad Koch (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) topped Kolesnik, 6-1, 6-3.
With the fall season complete, Babson will resume its campaign in March.
