Men's Tennis Downs Holy Cross in Spring Opener, 8-1

Beavers Improve to 3-0 for First Time Since 1997

NEEDHAM, Mass.—Five players earned points in both singles and doubles play to help Babson College open the spring portion of its schedule with an 8-1 victory over visiting Holy Cross on Saturday afternoon inside the Boston Sports Club.

With the win, Babson improves to 3-0 on the year, while Holy Cross slips to 4-4 overall.

Junior Dylan Pace (Atherton, Calif.) and first-year Tyler Zhang (Southborough, Mass.) picked up the Beavers' first point with an 8-4 triumph at number three doubles, and the sophomore duo of Chris Kolesnik (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Andre Libnic (Coral Gables, Fla.) followed suit with an 8-4 victory at number two. The Green and White completed the sweep at number one as senior Brandon Rosenbluth (Pound Ridge, N.Y.) and junior Alberto De Mendiola (San Jose, Costa Rica) edged the Crusaders' duo of senior Peter Campito (Loudonville, N.Y.) and sophomore Matthew Slowinski (Montclair, N.J.) in a tiebreaker, 8-7 (7-2).

Libnic and Zhang posted matching 6-4, 6-4 wins at second and fifth singles, while three other Babson players needed three sets to finish off their opponents. De Mendiola dropped a first-set tiebreaker before rallying for a 6-7 (7-9), 6-1, 6-4 triumph at number, while Rosenbluth rallied for a 5-7, 6-3, 6-3 victory at number three.

Kolesnik won the opening set on the way to edging Campito, 6-3, 4-6, 7-5, at fourth singles. Holy Cross earned its lone point of the match at sixth singles where senior Henry Harrs (Thornwood, N.Y.) defeated Beavers' first-year Rafael Premisleaner (Ojai, Calif.), 6-3, 7-5.

Babson returns to action next Sunday when it hosts Trinity at 2:30 p.m., while Holy Cross is off until March 16 when it faces Colgate.

• Saturday's match was the Beavers first against Holy Cross since 2006 and their first against a Division I opponent since taking on Colgate in 2015.
• Babson is off to a 3-0 start for the first time since 1997 when it won its first 11 matches before falling to Bowdoin in the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance.
