WHITTIER, Calif.—Sophomores Andre Libnic (Coral Gables, Fla.) and Chris Kolesnik (Staten Island, N.Y.) and first-year Tyler Zhang (Southborough, Mass.) were all victorious in both singles and doubles as visiting Babson College defeated Whittier College, 6-3, in non-conference men's tennis action on Saturday at the Richard Ettinger Tennis Courts.
With the win, Babson improves to 5-0 on the year, while Whittier slips to 2-7 overall.
Despite suffering an 8-3 loss at number one doubles, the Beavers won a pair of hard-fought matches to carry a lead into singles. Libnic and Kolesnik were 8-7 (7-1) winners at number two, while the duo of Zhang and junior Dylan Pace (Atherton, Calif.) posted an 8-5 result at number three.
Libnic recorded a 6-4, 6-1 victory at number two singles, Kolesnik was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at number four, and Zhang split the first two sets at number six before pulling out a 6-3, 4-6, 10-7 triumph. First-year Ron Brody (Springfield, N.J.) recorded Babson's other singles point with a 6-1, 6-2 decision at number five.
Junior Alberto De Mendiola (San Jose, Costa Rica) suffered his first dual match setback of the spring falling 6-3, 6-7 (7-4), 10-7 to the Poets' first-year Pim Van Der Veer (Amsterdam, Netherlands) at number one. Senior Brandon Rosenbluth (Pound Ridge, N.Y.) dropped a 6-1, 6-4 decision to sophomore Matt Yanuck (Studio City, Calif.) at number three singles.
Babson returns to action on Monday when it faces Nichols at 3:45 p.m. ET in Whittier, Calif.
• Saturday's match was the first all-time between Babson and Whittier.
• The match against Whittier was the first of five to be played in southern California over the next seven days.
• The Beavers' five-match winning streak matches the program's longest run without a loss since posting seven consecutive victories back in 2015.
