BABSON PARK, Mass.—Propelled by three close victories in doubles, Babson College rolled through singles on the way to defeating the Coast Guard Academy, 9-0, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's tennis action on Saturday afternoon at the Babson Tennis Complex.
With the win, Babson improves to 8-4 overall and 1-1 in league play, while Coast Guard dips to 4-5 overall and 1-1 in the NEWMAC.
Junior Dylan Pace (Atherton, Calif.) and first-year Tyler Zhang (Northborough, Mass.) won 8-6 at third doubles, while each of the other two matches were decided by tiebreaker. Senior Brandon Rosenbluth (Pound Ridge, N.Y.) and junior Alberto De Mendiola (San Jose, Costa Rica) pulled out an 8-7 (7-3) decision at number one, while sophomores Chris Kolesnik (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Andre Libnic (Coral Gables, Fla.) were 8-7 (7-5) winners at number two.
De Mendiola breezed to a 6-2, 6-1 victory at first singles, Rosenbluth won the by same scored at number three, and Zhang was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at number six. Libnic recorded a 6-2, 6-4 triumph at number two, Kolesnik posted a 6-3, 6-3 decision at number four, and first-year Ron Brody (Springfield, N.J.) completed the sweep with a 6-3, 7-6 win at number five.
Babson returns to action on Thursday at 4 p.m. when it hosts Connecticut College, while Coast Guard takes on Clark on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
• The Beavers are 18-6 all-time against Coast Guard and have won 10 consecutive matches between the teams.
• Babson has not lost a match against a NEWMAC opponent other than MIT since 2013 having gone 36-0 against the rest of the league during this stretch.
• The Beavers have won their last seven matches at home.
