BABSON PARK, Mass.—The Babson College men's tennis program received national recognition on Monday afternoon as its 2023 recruiting class was ranked 23rd among Division III programs by the Tennis Recruiting Network and Mizuno.
Head coach Michael Kopelman, who just completed his first season leading both the Beavers' men's and women's programs, has seven incoming first-year players from five different states and two countries. Two incoming student-athletes were rated as three-star players, while four other rookies were rated as two-star players.
"This is a very special group of young men," commented Kopelman. "I know they are going to develop into strong leaders on campus as well as on the tennis court. Having such a large class will serve as a great foundation for our program moving forward as we continue to push toward new heights. This group has the potential to really elevate Babson tennis and I am extremely excited to start working with them in the fall."
No stranger to success on the recruiting trail, four of Kopelman's six classes while a men's and women's assistant coach at Brandeis University were ranked in the top 25 by the Tennis Recruiting Network, highlighted by bringing in the No. 7 ranked men's class in 2018. Babson was one of three New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) programs in the rankings along with MIT, which came in at No. 3, and the 25th-ranked Coast Guard Academy.
The Tennis Recruiting Network uses four sets of rankings and enlists the help of Division III coaches from around the country to help formulate its rankings.
Babson, which reached its seventh consecutive NEWMAC Tournament final back in May, matched its single-season program record for wins and finished the 2018-19 campaign with an overall mark of 14-5.
