The New England Womens and Mens Athletics Conference (NEWMAC) released its 2010 men's tennis postseason awards on Tuesday, and a quartert of Babson players were recognized. Leading the way was senior co-captain Brian Lafayette (Burlington, Vt.), who was named All-Conference Second Team at number five singles, All-Conference Second Team at number one doubles, and was named to the Academic All-Conference Team. Junior Justin Albert (Newton, Mass.) joined Lafayette with Second Team honors at number one doubles, and senior Moises Numa (Talahassee, Fla.) and sophomore Danny Schneider (Littleton, Mass.) were both named to the Academic All-Conference Team. The Babson College men's tennis team saw its season come to an unfortunate close on Saturday morning, as the fourth-seeded Beavers fell to top-seeded MIT, 5-0, in the semifinal round of the 2010 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament at Coast Guard. With the loss, Babson finishes its season with a record of 6-13. The only Beaver to win a set in Saturday's contest was senior captain Brian Lafayette, who led MIT's Andrew Cooper, 6-3, 1-0, before their match was halted when the Engineers captured the overall win. Fourth-seeded host Babson College recorded a 5-1 victory over fifth-seeded Springfield College, 5-1, in the quarterfinal round of the 2010 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Mens Tennis Tournament on Thursday afternoon. With the win, the Beavers (6-12) advance to Saturdays semifinal round at Coast Guard, where they will meet top-seeded MIT at 9:30 a.m. The winner of that contest will play in the championship match later that afternoon. Babson built an early 2-1 lead in doubles play, thanks to an 8-3 win by the senior tandem of Alex Kamergorodsky (Millis, Mass.) and Brian Lafayette (Burlington, Vt.) at number one and an 8-4 victory by first-year Simeon Human (Trelex, Vaud, Switzerland) and junior Justin Albert (Newton, Mass.) at number two.
