WORCESTER, Mass.—Junior Dominic Esposito (Massapequa, N.Y.) set new personal bests in all five events and sits in 10th place overall with 3,171 points after the opening day of the Holy Cross Decathlon at the Hart Track & Field Complex.
Esposito opened the day with a time of 11.61 in the 100-meter dash, and followed it up with a jump of 19-feet, 9.79 inches in the long jump to finish in 11th position. He produced a toss of 35-feet, 2.5-inches to come in 12th in the shot put before wrapping up the first day of competition with his two best finishes of the day. Esposito came in tied for ninth by clearing 5-feet, 9.75-inches in the high jump, and then came in fifth with a time of 52.33 in the 400-meter run.
Competing in the seventh decathlon of his Babson career, Esposito shattered his previous best score after five events (2,932) by 239 points, and currently sits in second place among five Division III competitors.
The final five events (110-meter hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin, 1500-meter run) will get started at 11 a.m. on Thursday.
