PRINCETON, N.J.—The Babson College men's and women's track & field team enjoyed a banner day on Friday afternoon at the Larry Ellis Invitational hosted by Princeton University. First-year John Decker (Parkland, Fla.) broke his own school record in the 800-meter run, while seniors Marina Capalbo (Gainesville, Va.) and Mark Gulesian (Miami, Fla.) posted two of the program's top times in the 1500 meters.
Decker came in second in his heat and was fourth among Division III participants while posting a time of 1:54.13 to shatter his previous mark set on April 4 at Fitchburg State by nearly a full second. Capalbo came in 31st overall and third among Division III competitors with a time of 4:35.07 in the 1500 meters. Her time was the second-fastest in program history, and less than a second off her school record set last May.
Gulesian came in third in his heat and posted his fastest time of the season and the eighth best of his career in the 1500 meters, as he crossed the finish line in 3:59.07.
The Beavers will return to action on Saturday when they compete at the Sean Collier Invitational hosted by MIT.
