ALBANY, N.Y.—The Babson College men's and women's track & field teams continued their preparations for next week's Eastern College Athletic conference (ECAC) Championships by setting a pair of school records at the University at Albany Purple and Gold Last Chance Meet on Saturday afternoon.
Senior Mark Gulesian (Miami, Fla.) was the Beavers' top performer on the day, setting a new program mark in the 800-meter run before helping the 4x400-meter relay team set a new school record for the third event in a row. Gulesian, who came in second in the race, posted a time of 1:54.09 to break first-year John Decker's (Parkland, Fla.) record by seven one-hundredths of a second and qualify for the ECAC's. Decker finished sixth overall with a time of 1:55.18, while fellow first-year Ryan Colaco (Danville, Calif.) came in 27th with a time of 2:02.97.
Gulesian and Decker, along with junior Dominic Esposito (Massapequa, N.Y.) and sophomore JD Greenfield (Reading, Mass.) ran a time of 3:22.15 to break their previous record by nearly two seconds and qualify for the ECAC Championships. Esposito also enjoyed a strong day in his individual events, coming in eighth with a time of 16.56 in the 110-meter hurdles and 21st with a leap of 18-feet, 9-inches in the long jump.
Senior Marina Capalbo (Gainesville, Va.), who was the lone female to compete for Babson on Saturday, posted a ninth-place result in the 800 meters with a time of 2:18.74.
The Beavers will wrap up their season at the two-day ECAC Championships starting on Thursday at Springfield College.
