Men's and Womens' Track & Field Gets Off To Strong Start at BSU Invitational

BRIDGEWATER, Mass.—The Babson College men's and women's track & field teams combined for 19 top-10 finishes in a strong team showing at the season-opening Bridgewater State University Invitational on Saturday.

The Babson women put together six top-10 results, led by two, as well as a school record from junior Melissa Perlman (Bentonville, Ark.). She shattered her own program mark with a throw of 89-feet, 5-inches in the hammer, and then set personal records to finished third in the shot put (34-feet, 4-inches) and eighth in the discus (97-feet, 7-inches).

Senior Kim Dvorak (Essex Junction, Vt.) got off to a strong start with a third-place finish in the long jump. She also came in 13th with a time of 28.86 in the 200-meter dash and was 17th with a time of 13.51 in the 100-meter dash. Sophomore Melanie Plattner (Fort Lee, N.J.) recorded a 10th-place showing in the 1500-meter run, while classmate Hayley Finik (Beverly, Mass.) and first-year Abby Slater (Clinton, Mass.) came in eighth and tied for 10th, respectively, in the high jump. Slater also finished 14th in the 100-meter hurdles, 18th in the 200-meter dash and 19th in the javelin.

Junior Heather Murphy (Perrineville, N.J.) recorded a 12th-place result in the 10,000-meter run, while Ilana Kleynerman (Sudbury, Mass.) came in 18th in her collegiate debut in the discus.

The Babson men enjoyed a tremendous opening meet that featured 13 top-10 results. First-year Matthew Dynan (Reading, Mass.) finished second in the 5000-meter run with a time of 15:44.57, while senior Cezary Bialon (Park Ridge, Ill.) and junior JD Greenfield (Reading, Mass.) came in third in the triple jump and the 400-meter dash, respectively. First-year Gabe Ficht (Newburyport, Mass.) also had a strong showing in his collegiate debut with a fourth-place showing in the 800-meter run.

Sophomore John Decker (Parkland, Fla.) posted a fifth-place result in the 1500-meter run, first-year Sam Gabranski (Sherborn, Mass.) came in fifth in the long jump, and junior Sam LaPointe (Wells, Maine) was sixth in the 200-meter dash. First-years Walker Odell (Santa Barbara, Calif.) and Andrew Myers (Bethlehem, Pa.) came in eighth in the 800-meter run and the high jump, respectively, while classmate Jake Fishkin (Hagerstown, Md.) finished ninth in the 5000-meter run.

Junior Justin Dill (Bellingham, Mass.) added an 11th-place finish in the long jump and an 18th-place result in the 100-meter dash. First-year Austin Henry (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) came in 11th in his collegiate debut in the 5000-meter run, and classmate Sayin Shute (Lexington, Mass.) finished 17th in both the 100-meer dash and 17th in the long jump for the Beavers.

Babson returns to action next Saturday at the Coast Guard Academy Invitational starting at 11 a.m.
