Track & Field Records Strong Showing at MIT Sean Collier Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—The Babson College men's and women's track & field teams posted a pair of victories and put together a number of solid performances in their final regular season meet of the spring on Saturday at the MIT Sean Collier Invitational.

The meet was highlighted by the women's 4x400-meter relay team of junior Melanie Plattner (Fort Lee, N.J.), sophomore Katherine Tamulionis (Foxboro, Mass.) and first-years Stephanie Rodriguez (Guatemala City, Guatemala) and Taline Karozichian (Pleasantville, N.Y.), which won the event with a school-record time of 4:15.99. their time was 1.24 seconds faster than the previous program mark set back in 2010.

Tamulionis added a third-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles and added a fifth-place result in the 100-meter hurdles, while Plattner came in 10th in the 800-meter run. Senior Paris Ekman (Fargo, N.D.) came in fourth in the pole vault and sophomore Abby Slater (Clinton, Mass.) finished fifth in the high jump and ninth in the 100-meter hurdles.

Rodriguez came in 10th in the 1500-meter run and sophomore Angelina Raffone (Westbrook, Conn.), who set a new program record in the 100-meter dash last Saturday, finished ninth in the event at MIT.

In the men's half of the meet, the Beavers were led by senior JD Greenfield's (Reading, Mass.) victory in the 400-meter run. He posted a time of 50.69 to qualify for the NCAA New England Championships in May.

Sophomore Sayin Shute (Lexington, Mass.) finished third in the 200-meter dash and fifth in the 100-meter dash, while first-year Sean Rezendes (Scituate, Mass.) came in fourth in the high jump. First-year Sean Haney (Duxbury, Mass.) placed seventh in the 200 meters and 11th in the 100 meters.

Junior Sam Gabranski (Sherborn, Mass.) finished sixth in the long jump, Kalyan Ramkumar (Delmar, N.Y.) came in seventh in the triple jump and classmate Samir Arora (Fremont, Calif.) placed eighth in the 800-meter run. Sophomore Gabe Ficht (Newbruyport, Mass.) and first-year Nicholas Virkler (Lincoln, Mass.) finished 10th and 12th, respectively, in the 400 meters.

Babson returns to action next Saturday at MIT when it competes in the 2017 NEWMAC Championships.
