WESTWOOD, Mass.—After winning three events at the 2017 conference meet, the Babson College men's track & field team was picked to finish fifth when the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) released its preseason coaches' poll on Tuesday morning.
MIT, which has captured 17 straight league titles, picked up five of six first-place votes to finish first ahead of last year's runner-up WPI. Coast Guard Academy came in third and Springfield College was one spot ahead of the Beavers in fourth place. Wheaton College rounded out the poll in sixth position.
Under the direction of reigning NEWMAC Coach of the Year Russ Brennen, the Green and White returns 18 athletes after finishing just one point shy of a program record at last year's conference meet. The Beavers broke five school records and earned six all-region and one All-America award last spring.
Babson opens the 2018 campaign at the Bridgewater State Invitational on March 24.
