BABSON PARK, Mass.—Babson College senior John Decker (Parkland, Fla.) was officially selected to compete at the 2018 NCAA Division III Men's Track & Field National Championships on Saturday morning.
The first male in school history to qualify for nationals in consecutive seasons, Decker ranks 10th in Division III in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:51.14 that came at the Long Beach State Invitational back on April 21. The Beavers' only four-time New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) champion, he won the 800 meters for the second year in a row at the league meet on April 28.
Decker had a tremendous national championship debut last May when he won his preliminary heat and then earned the first All-America honor in Babson history with a fourth-place finish in the 800-meter final. A three-time all-region honoree, he set the school record in the event (1:50.48) in last year's prelims and posted a time of 1:51.66 in the finals.
The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse will host nationals beginning on Thursday. The 800-meter prelims are set for Friday at 6 p.m. ET with the top nine performers advancing to Saturday's 2 p.m. ET final.
