NEW LONDON, Conn.—The Babson College men's and women's track & field teams both finished seventh at the Coast Guard Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The men's team totaled 43 points, while the women's team finished with 29 on the day.
The top individual performance of the day came in the 100-meter hurdles where first-year Katherine Jacobs (East Granby, Conn.) came in first by bettering her own school mark with a time of 14.80, which could rank as high as 10th in Division III entering next weekend. Classmate Vivian Lehman (Weston, Mass.) also had a strong showing in the 400-meter hurdles as she qualified for the NCAA regional meet by finishing third with a time of 1:08.50.
Junior Stephanie Rodriguez (Guatemala City, Guatemala) came in third with a season-best time of 2:28.13 in the 800 meters, while first-year Nina Sitarski (Plainville, Mass.) finished sixth with a throw of 92 fee in the javelin. Classmate Sydney McLaughlin (Sherborn, Mass.) crossed the finish line in a personal-best time of 1:02.17 to place 10th in the 400 meters, which was less than a second ahead of sophomore Ana Lamoso (San Juan, Puerto Rico), who came in 11th with a PR of 1:02.94.
Sophomore Emma Cavanaugh (Southbury, Conn.) also recorded a personal best to come in 13th with her time of 5:50.33 in the 1500 meters.
On the men's side, the Beavers took three of the top five spots in the 400-meter run, highlighted by first-year Colin Cianciolo's (East Greenwich, R.I.) win in a time of 51.55. Junior Nicholas Virkler (Lincoln, Mass.) was fourth in 52.07, while classmate Samir Arora (Fremont, Calif.) placed fifth with a time of 52.09.
Sophomore Ethan Kohanik (Delran, N.J.) came in third with a time of 59.24 in the 400-meter hurdles, and senior Andrew Myers (Bethlehem, Pa.) led a trio of top-10 finishers with his leap of 38-feet, 9-inches in the triple jump. Junior Sean Rezendes (Scituate, Mass.) cleared 20-feet, 7.25-inches in the long jump to place fifth, just in front of first-year Zach Petrin (Plainfield, N.H.), who finished sixth with a jump of 20-feet, 2.25-inches.
First-year Joseph Marwill (Hingham, Mass.) came in seventh in the 800 meters with a season-best time of 1:59.98, and classmate Sean Kennedy (Weymouth, Mass.) finished 10th with a throw of 132-feet, 9-inches in the javelin.
Babson returns to action on Friday when it begins competition at Connecticut College's two-day Silfen Invitational.
