Rezendes, Virkler Named to NEWMAC Men's Track & Field Academic All-Conference Squad

WESTWOOD, Mass.—Babson College juniors Sean Rezendes (Scituate, Mass.) and Nicholas Virkler (Lincoln, Mass.) were recognized when the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced its men's track & field Academic All-Conference team late last week.

Rezendes, who earned the second academic all-conference award of his career, came in seventh after clearing 5-feet, 8.75-inches in the high jump and finished eighth with a season-best leap of 21-feet, 4-inches in the long jump at the NEWMAC Championships last Saturday. The school-record holder in the high jump, Rezendes has qualified for this weekend's NCAA New England Championships in the high jump.

Virkler received his second consecutive academic all-conference honor and placed eighth with a season-best time of 1:58.43 in the 800-meter run last Saturday at the NEWMAC meet. He also helped the 4x400-meter relay squad place third and will compete in the relay at the regional meet this coming weekend.

Honorees must have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2018 fall semester, achieved second year academic status at his institution, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.

Babson, which finished sixth at the NEWMAC Championships, will send seven individuals to the NCAA New England Championships at Williams beginning on Friday.
