WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - The Babson men's and women's track & field teams kicked off competition at the 2019 NCAA New England Championships with strong performances in a pair of events on Friday afternoon at Williams.
Senior Angelina Raffone (Westbrook, Conn.) ran a season-best 12.26 to win heat number three of the women's 100-meter dash, finishing ahead of Bowdoin sophomore Brittney McKinley (Atascadero, Calif.) by 0.17 seconds. With the win in her heat, Raffone grabbed one of the three automatic qualifying spots to advance to tomorrow's 100-meter dash final with the second fastest time of the day. Williams senior Kennedy Green (Los Angeles, Calif.) posted the fastest time of the day running 12.20 to win heat two.
In the men's long jump, junior Sean Rezendes (Scituate, Mass.) leaped to a distance of 19-feet, 9-inches on his second attempt to place 26th in the competition, while MIT sophomore Yorai Shauol (Raanana, Israel) recorded a jump of 23-feet, 9.5-inches to take home the gold.
The Beavers return to action tomorrow for day three of the NCAA New England Championships beginning at 10:30 a.m.
